Michael and Matthew Meek didn't learn plumbing from a textbook. They grew up in it. Their father was a plumber, and both brothers were immersed in the trade from a young age — watching, learning, and eventually picking up tools themselves.
Both directors started their careers in commercial and specialised plumbing — working in hospitals, manufacturing facilities, and plumbing out large-scale equipment and machinery. It's the kind of work that demands precision, problem-solving under pressure, and an understanding of complex systems that most residential plumbers never encounter.
From there, their paths diverged before converging again. Matthew moved into housing maintenance plumbing and gas fitting — building deep expertise in the residential systems that Auckland homeowners rely on every day. Michael headed to London, where he spent years specialising in plumbing and drainage across some of the UK's most demanding environments.
In 2014, they brought all of that experience together and launched Response Plumbing. The goal was simple: build the plumbing company they'd want to call themselves. Behind the scenes, our office is run by Issey — who came to Response Plumbing from Reece Plumbing, where she worked as a showroom consultant. She manages all bookings, scheduling, and customer enquiries, making sure every job is organised and every customer is looked after from the first phone call to the final sign-off. It's the kind of detail that separates a good plumbing company from a great one.
Out on the tools, Mitch has been with Response Plumbing since 2017. He completed his entire plumbing apprenticeship with the company and is now one of our most experienced plumbers and drainlayers — specialising in drain unblocking, drain relining and housing maintenance plumbing. Nine years in, Mitch is the plumber behind several of our real job case studies, including the Papakura water main leak and the Parnell in-wall cistern repair.
